Egal ob im Beobachten oder im Aussagen: Echte Objektivität gehört ins Reich der Fiktion. Und trotzdem glauben wir der Kamera, dem filmischen Blick. Umso radikaler die Geste, sich der Subjektivität hinzugeben. Die Filme in „Craving for Narratives“ richten den Blick nach innen, machen sich angreifbar, wagen zu spekulieren. Sie existieren in den volatilen Räumen zwischen Fiktion und Dokumentation, persönlicher Aussage und allgemeingültiger Überlegung. Vom müßigen Alltag gelangweilter NPCs bis zu einer entgleisenden Talkshow: Wahrheit ist, was wir in der Welt lesen.

No matter whether it’s observing or making statements: true objectivity belongs to the realm of fiction. Yet, still we believe the camera, the cinematic gaze. That’s why the gesture of surrendering oneself to subjectivity is all the more radical. The films of “Craving for Narratives” turn their gaze inwards, they open themselves to attack and dare to speculate. They exist in the volatile spaces between fiction and documentation, personal assertion and universal deliberation. From the futile daily existence of bored NPCs to a talk show going off the rails: truth is what we read into the world.

What an extraordinary film, we love it! So viel steckt in diesem Film: Musicals, Plottwist, Splatter, Drag, what else? Alles in 80s-Retro-Ästhetik. Und dazu noch hochkarätig besetzt.
