Welcome to the 41st INTERFILM festival!

In einer Zeit, die unsere Demokratie täglich auf die Probe stellt, in der Freiheit und Meinungsvielfalt überall unter Druck geraten, ist Film mehr als Unterhaltung – er wird zum Hebel, zur Versammlung, zur Strategie. Mit der 41. Edition des INTERFILM Festivals rufen wir dazu auf, zwischen all dem Chaos, den Krisen und den konstruierten Narrativen Räume zu schaffen, in denen Solidarität trägt, Widerstand wächst, Erinnerungen lebendig bleiben und Utopien keimen.

In an era in which democracy is put to the test on a daily basis, in which liberty and freedom of expression are under pressure everywhere we look, film is more than entertainment – it becomes a lever, an assembly, a strategy. With the 41st edition of INTERFILM, we call, amidst all the chaos, crises and constructed narratives, for the creation of spaces in which solidarity sustains, resistance grows, memories remain alive and utopias germinate.

Mitten in den Krisen unserer Zeit fragt man sich: „Was kann ich tun?“ Queer Trash Ecologies lädt ein, erst zu fühlen – Wut, Hoffnung, Angst, Freude – bevor wir handeln. Zwischen Cruising-Spots, wilden Stadtbewohner*innen und versteckten Nischen zeigen die Filme, wie Menschen, Tiere und urbane Umwelt überraschend zusammenhängen. Abgelegene Orte, Überflüssiges, Ausgegrenztes werden neu entdeckt, Grenzen verschwimmen – Gefühle sind der Startpunkt für Aktion – die Filme laden ein, bekannte Vorstellungen von Wert, Raum und Ordnung zu hinterfragen, also gemeinsam in Gruppen neue Perspektiven entdecken – einfach ausprobieren und einlassen.

In the midst of the crises of our time, we wonder: “What can I do?” Queer Trash Ecologies invites us, first and foremost, to feel – anger, hope, fear, joy – before we act. Between cruising spots, wild urbanites and hidden niches, the films show how people, animals and the urban environment are surprisingly interconnected. Remote places, the moot and the marginalised are rediscovered and boundaries blurred – feelings are the seeds of action – as these works invite viewers to question familiar conceptions of value, space and order, to discover new perspectives in groups – to simply try things out and let things in.
