Welcome to the 41st INTERFILM festival!

In einer Zeit, die unsere Demokratie täglich auf die Probe stellt, in der Freiheit und Meinungsvielfalt überall unter Druck geraten, ist Film mehr als Unterhaltung – er wird zum Hebel, zur Versammlung, zur Strategie. Mit der 41. Edition des INTERFILM Festivals rufen wir dazu auf, zwischen all dem Chaos, den Krisen und den konstruierten Narrativen Räume zu schaffen, in denen Solidarität trägt, Widerstand wächst, Erinnerungen lebendig bleiben und Utopien keimen.

In an era in which democracy is put to the test on a daily basis, in which liberty and freedom of expression are under pressure everywhere we look, film is more than entertainment – it becomes a lever, an assembly, a strategy. With the 41st edition of INTERFILM, we call, amidst all the chaos, crises and constructed narratives, for the creation of spaces in which solidarity sustains, resistance grows, memories remain alive and utopias germinate.

Gedankenflüge führen uns jenseits des Sagbaren, Realen und Fantastischen. Wir reisen zu einer Mutter, deren Liebe die von Geistern besessene Tochter zu retten versucht. Wir bleiben einen Moment in der Unendlichkeit von Vektorgrafiken stecken und flanieren im Bärenkostüm durchs ehemalige DDR-Berlin. Wir machen eine Zeitreise in eine dystopische Zukunft, in der eine Hannover-Replik zum Archiv des Westens wird. Mystische Wesen laden in ihr Inneres ein und Wafaas Lieder lassen uns ihre Sehnsucht, Ängste, Hoffnungen und Vergangenheit in Gaza erahnen.

Mind Travels guides us beyond the realms of the sayable, the real and the fantastic. We travel to a mother whose love may be strong enough to save a daughter possessed by spirits. We linger for a moment, caught in the infinite world of vector graphics, and stroll through former East Berlin in a bear costume. We take a voyage through time to a dystopian future, in which a replica of Hannover has become an archive of the West. Mystical creatures beckon us inside their inner worlds, and Wafaa’s songs allow us to imagine the longing, fears, hopes and past that shaped them in their native Gaza.
